Your First E-Bike Ride: How to Charge, Start and Control Your Speed
Your E11EVEN is out of the box, and your first e-bike ride is getting closer. Once the bike is assembled and checked, the next steps are straightforward: charge the battery, switch on the display and choose a low level of assistance. Give yourself time to get comfortable with each one before heading out.
This first e-bike ride guide follows that order, from the official installation videos to your first short ride. You will also learn how assistance differs from mechanical gears, how to slow down smoothly and what to check before putting the bike away.
The order is simple: assemble and check → charge → switch on → adjust assistance → ride.
Start with the installation video for your model
Watch your model’s video before beginning assembly, then pause and replay the steps as you work:

For DRAGONFLY, check the official E-Bike Assembly playlist for future video updates. A dedicated DRAGONFLY installation video is not available yet. Use the instructions supplied with your DRAGONFLY and contact us if a step is unclear. Other models’ videos can help explain the general process, but their hardware and tightening requirements may differ.
Keep the electrical system off during assembly. Follow the supplied instructions for the handlebar, front wheel, pedals and saddle. Before continuing, check that the wheels and steering are secure, the seatpost is within its insertion limits, tire pressure is appropriate and both brakes work.
If you would like help with assembly, contact an E11EVEN dealer about available service before visiting.
1. How to charge your E11EVEN e-bike
Use the charger supplied with your bike. Keep it with that bike so it is easy to identify, especially if your household has more than one e-bike.

- Switch the bike off. Choose a dry, ventilated charging location with a stable surface. Keep the charging area clear of combustible materials and exits.
- Check the battery, cable and charging port. They should be dry and free of visible damage. Let an unusually hot battery cool naturally before charging within the permitted temperature range.
- Connect the charger. Follow the supplied charging instructions for the connection order between the charger, battery and household outlet. Position the cable so the connector is not pulled or bent.
- Confirm charging has started. Check the charger’s indicator using the meaning shown on its label or in its instructions. Stay nearby during charging.
- Disconnect when charging is complete. Follow the disconnection instructions, close the charging-port cover and put the charger away.
If you removed the battery to charge it, reinstall and lock it as instructed. Check that it is fully seated and secure before moving the bike.
Before switching on: the charger should be disconnected, the port cover closed and the battery securely installed.
A matching plug does not make another charger compatible. Use the supplied charger or ask E11EVEN to confirm a replacement for your model and battery. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission also recommends charging while present, never while sleeping, and unplugging when finished.
2. How to turn on your E11EVEN e-bike
With charging finished, keep the bike stationary while you learn the handlebar controls.
- Stabilize the bike. Keep your hands clear of the throttle while switching on.
- Use the power button on the handlebar control. Operate it as shown in the supplied display instructions to switch the system on.
- Check the screen. Confirm that the display lights up, battery information appears and there is no error warning.
- Find the assist controls and brakes. Identify the controls for increasing and decreasing assistance, the mechanical gear shifter and the throttle. Confirm which brake lever operates each brake.
- Check the lights and speed units. Use the lighting control while stopped, check the front and rear lights, and confirm whether speed is displayed in mph or km/h.
If the screen stays dark, check the battery’s charge and whether it is fully seated. If your battery has a separate power switch, check its position according to the battery instructions.
Once the display is on and you have identified the controls, select the lowest assisted setting for your first start.
3. How to adjust assistance and control your speed
Start with the lowest assisted setting shown in your display instructions and an easy mechanical gear. Leave the throttle untouched while you first learn how the bike responds to pedaling.
To get moving
Pedal gently in a flat, open practice area. Notice when the motor begins helping and keep your first few starts slow. You do not need a high assistance level to learn the controls.
To add more assistance
Use the assist-increase control to move up one level. Check the selected level on the display, feel the change and give yourself time before increasing it again.
For less support, use the assist-decrease control. Higher assistance requests more motor support; it does not make the bike travel at a fixed speed.
To change how pedaling feels
Use the mechanical gear shifter. Shift while pedaling lightly and ease pressure during the change. Select an easier gear before a hill or stop so the next start is manageable.
Mechanical gears and motor assistance work together, but they perform different jobs:
| What you want to change | Control to use |
|---|---|
| More or less motor support | Assist-increase or assist-decrease control |
| Easier or harder pedaling | Mechanical gear shifter |
| Actual riding speed and stopping | Pedaling, throttle input if used, and the brake levers |
To slow down or stop
Ease off pedaling, release the throttle if you are using it, and apply the brakes progressively. Reducing the assist level does not replace braking.
Keep the supplied maximum-speed configuration for your first ride. Adjusting an assistance level is separate from changing a maximum assisted-speed limit. If you need help with that setting, contact E11EVEN with your model and display details, and follow the rules where you ride.
Learn throttle operation separately once starting and stopping feel predictable. Do not assume that selecting zero assistance disables every powered function.
4. Take a short first ride
Choose a flat, open place away from traffic and pedestrians. Wear a properly fitted helmet, secure loose clothing and leave cargo off the bike for this first practice.
Ride a short straight line, then come to a controlled stop. Repeat a few times before adding wide turns in both directions. Practice stopping and restarting until you can do both without looking down for the controls.
Keep the route short and close to home. Increase assistance gradually as you become comfortable, and follow the brake bedding-in instructions supplied with your bike. The goal of this first e-bike ride is to get familiar with the bike’s response.
After the ride: switch off and check the bike
Park securely and switch the system off using the power control. Check whether anything moved, loosened or rubbed during the ride, especially around the wheels, handlebar, pedals, battery mounting and accessories. Follow the manual’s initial-service and recheck schedule.
Let a hot battery cool naturally before charging within its permitted temperature range. Wipe away surface dirt with a soft cloth and keep water away from electrical connections. Avoid pressure washing.
If steering or braking feels wrong, or a wheel or battery is loose, stop riding. Photograph any display error code and contact E11EVEN support. Include your order number, model, serial number and a clear photo or short video. You can also email support@e11evenbike.com.
A clear description of what you were doing when the issue appeared helps our team guide you through the next step.
First e-bike ride FAQs
Do I need to change the maximum-speed setting before riding?
No. Begin with the supplied configuration and learn the normal assist controls first. Contact E11EVEN for model-specific instructions if you need help with a maximum assisted-speed setting.
Does a higher assist level mean a fixed riding speed?
No. The level requests motor support. Your pedaling, mechanical gear, terrain and braking still affect actual speed.
Can I use another e-bike’s charger?
Use the supplied charger or a replacement E11EVEN has confirmed for your bike and battery. Matching connectors alone do not confirm compatibility.
What if the display will not turn on?
Check the battery charge and seating, and any separate battery power switch according to its instructions. If the display remains dark, contact E11EVEN with your model details rather than opening electrical components yourself.
